You can almost certainly take money from a customer this week. Whether you should form an LLC first is a separate question with a separate answer, and confusing the two is the single most common reason a business sits unlaunched for months. This guide gives you the order to work in: what actually blocks a first sale, what only blocks scale, what it costs to find out, and where to look up every number that depends on your state and industry.

The sequence below assumes you're in the US. If you're elsewhere, the logic holds — separate permission-to-trade from ownership structure — but the offices and terms differ.

1. Split the question into two lists
