Search engines and AI assistants both answer questions by pulling from pages they can read, trust, and match to a specific question. This checklist makes your business legible to both: consistent facts they can verify, one page per thing you sell, plain answers to real questions, and proof you exist. Work through it in order. Most of it is free, and a solo owner can get through the whole list in two or three focused weeks.
1. Lock down your core facts first
Write your business facts down once, in a text file, and treat it as the source of truth:
- Legal business name and the name you trade under (pick one public version, exactly)
- Street address, or a defined service area if you go to customers
- Phone number, in one format
- Email and contact page URL
- Hours
- Services, in the words customers use
- Payment methods, licences, insurance, service radius
That is where the free part ends.
The rest walks the whole thing through, step by step — including the parts people get wrong and what to do when the normal route fails.
